EdTech: When Technology Came to Education.
The traditional educational model of in-person classes is changing thanks to the emergence of new technologies. Little by little, screens and the internet connection are proposing a new way of teaching and learning content.
These technologies burst into academic life in different ways: sometimes, as support in in-person experiences, and other times, as the main medium and mainstay of the teaching-learning process.
All these tools radically transformed the possibilities of teaching and learning, and allowed us to adapt content to formats that produce greater interest in students.
In this context the EdTechs emerge, startups focused mainly on developing technologies for education.
What is educational technology or EdTech?
This term refers to the use and development of information and communication technologies in the educational field. In this sense, it's the making available of the benefits of new technologies to the classroom and educational environment.
The massive use of cell phones and the great growth of the population with an internet connection changed forever the way we learn. Faced with this situation, traditional educational models are forced to make use of different tools to appeal to their students' interest. Among the technologies most used for this purpose, we can name virtual reality, the personalization of education, artificial intelligence, among others.
What is E-Learning?
There are diverse ways to boost the learning process; Coderhouse is in the E-Learning category.
It's about the creation of a 100% digital educational environment characterized by the physical separation between the teacher and the students.
One of the great benefits of this category is that it gives us the possibility of attending classes from any geographic location. This opens up a world of possibilities when it comes to choosing how and in what to train. That's why, at Coderhouse, we have one main objective: to democratize access to education in Latin America, and for demographic and socioeconomic issues to stop being an impediment.
Challenges of technology at Coderhouse
The linear model of learning -in which the teacher transmits their knowledge to the student- was losing relevance; now it's about open and collaborative learning, and the Internet became a source of information with unlimited access 24 hours a day.
Up to here we saw the infinite advantages technology can offer education; however, there are also challenging and, at the same time, rewarding ones to solve, such as, for example, improving our students' learning experience, overcoming the multitude of distractions, beating superficial learning, among others
At Coderhouse, we're working so that our platform can eliminate the typical barriers of digital education, focusing on people, being accessible in all areas, simple and easy to use at any time. Day by day, opportunities present themselves for us to be innovative, to find the solutions that let us overcome these obstacles.
Here data becomes a main actor in our decision-making. That's why every day we build a robust data ecosystem to keep being a data-driven company.
One of the great challenges the Technology area has today is to keep iterating in order to keep improving. For that, we believe it's fundamental to form a multidisciplinary team that contributes disruptive ideas to keep democratizing access to education throughout the region.
