For experienced developers & software engineers moving into AI engineering
Forward Deployed AI Engineering
8 weeks
1 live class / week
Don’t just prompt AI. Build with it, and deploy it where it matters. Build production-style AI applications—from retrieval and RAG to tool-using agents—and take them into real organizations: understand the client’s problem, integrate with their systems and hand off a system they can run.

What will you learn in the Forward Deployed AI Engineering course?
You’ll build the systems behind modern AI applications and deploy them inside real organizations the way a Forward Deployed Engineer does. Starting from client discovery, LLM APIs and structured outputs, you’ll work through embeddings, chunking, vector search, RAG, evaluation, tool use, agentic workflows, enterprise integration, governance, observability, deployment and handoff.
Hands-on experimentation is central: build components, intentionally stress or break them, inspect failure modes, and improve the system. You’ll also use AI coding tools as force multipliers—because AI can increasingly generate the code; an AI engineer needs to know whether the resulting system is actually good.
Who it’s for
Software engineers and backend developers comfortable with Python who want to move into LLM-powered systems and client-facing AI roles.
Developers who have built AI prototypes and want to take them to production inside real organizations: retrieval, evaluation, agents, enterprise integration and governance.
Engineers aiming for Forward Deployed or Applied AI roles who want to go from client discovery to a system the client can run, with a portfolio project they can defend technically.

When you finish
Run discovery and build an end-to-end LLM application: from user stories and KPIs to retrieval, generation, tools/agents, evaluation and serving.
Integrate and secure AI systems in enterprise environments: legacy systems, webhooks, delegated identity (OAuth2) and data governance.
Diagnose and evaluate failures across model, retrieval, orchestration, state and infrastructure, using test sets, traces, quality checks and latency/cost measurements.
Hand off a production-style capstone with runbooks and a story you can defend with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
